The last days
The last days included taking our lunch at the beach in “Caella” - This might not seem like a big thing to non danes, but the place is well known around here as beeing flooded by danish teens only out to lay on the beach consuming large amounts of alcohol. And the rumors was true, no doubt about that. The city is seperated from the beach by the railroad, so we found a place to park our bikes close to an undercrossing. On the other side we were met by a beach bar proclaming to be a part of Ung Rejs’s domain. We fell out of the target group by far - Not beeing between 16 to 26 years and in leather didn’t seem to fit in. But we keep low profile, eating our pizzas in silence, and before long a group of young danes showed up ordering beers and “sex-on-the-beach” drinks. Yack!
Heading on to Estartit, we found a nice city, and a hotel with water on both sides (Well, we found that the beach on the other side, was way closer (Only a road in between) than than the one we arrived on). The city sported a huge castle situated on a peninsula. The peninsula also explained why we got water on both sides of the hotel - Central allrite…
Hans Henrik lost his passport, as we told before, so the trip to Narbonne did imply a bit of risks. It turned out that there were 2 cops on the Spanish side and 10+ on the French. Fortuneatly they were all standing in a circle sipping coffee. Quiet a piece of luck apparently, as we were later told that the French government had put a clause in the Schengen deal in effect because of the London bombings - And one allowing them to actually do border controls because of the terrorist threat. Not that we would be easy to fit into the terrorist category, but we were missing a passport..
Anyho, we made it to Narbonne in good time - 3 hours early to loading time start. Our train was certainly not the only AutoZug (Seems that it’s about 1 each hour, although to different destinations) so there were stoping quiet a few bikers by. We have a good chat with one of them, Manuel, original from Spain now living in Germany on the 40th year. Also a Yamaha rider (Fazer 1000 even), so easy to talk to :) Anyho, Manuel gave me his email address, and it turns out that he works for a company making some very interesting stuff. I especialy like this bike.
Showing up a bit later and much closer to departure than us, was a couple of danish blockes. The [cracy] dudes had desided to go to the Skagen event, Træf på Toppen instead of going home after their 3 weeks on bike in Spain. Although they seemed just a little bit discurraged by the fact that it would add at least 200km to the days trip. Hope it went well for you guys :)
The weather was pretty good, and be the looks of the pictures it probably did.
In the end it turns out that we did a litle bit more than 4000km in the 3 weeks, we were at it. Apart from the crashes, it was a great trip all the way.

This is our last day in España, so we will be on our way to Narbonne early tomorrow. The only obstacles would be finding the station in Narbonne again, and getting over the border to França. ¿Why? Because Hans Henrik managed to forget his passport in a hotel reception on the 3rd day we were here. Be we hope that the Schengen deal works around there as well.
Now we are sitting in a Dutch café in l`Estartit enjoing a Hoegaarden, and there very limited internet machines. By that i mean that control does not work, witch kinda limits my wearabouts in screen, mutt and emacs. But I´ll get over it.

Right now we are hanging out in Barcelona - Great city if any of you are in doubt. So lovely in fact, that we are staying here for a couple of days. It’s sunny today, around the 25 degrees, so staying in the shadow at an cafe down at the harbour area Barceloneta, enjoying the food and WIFI (Thanks “linksys”) if not as tough as it may sound like :)
So fra we have driven around 3250 km and our bikes are still happily countinuing their jobs. Hans Henrik have had a bit of trouble with one of his ignition spark-plugs, but your favorite gas station, Repsol, had a new set of those, so we will make it home (Pew).

Yes, that is the actual name of the place we are at now, belive it or not. It is a turist town, by the looks of it, though we find it hard to belive that any danish (or english for that matter) travel agency would send people to a location named in that manner… Anyho, we got a great idea of an illustrative photo, we are going to make ;)
There will also be photos of Peñiscolas old fortress named Castillo del Papa Luna from the 1300 century. Pope Benedikt the 13th (aka Papa Luna) stayed here the last years of his life.
We passed trough a place called Oropesa earlier today, and got some pictures of the place, witch explains why we continued again - Oropesa no es España.
Last night was spend in Valencia, Spains 3rd largest city. It was pretty much like any other major european city. And thats all we got to say about that place.

Now having our residens in Pension Orient in Cartagena, we have had a long day. The driving was excelent - It’s like the roads around here was build with motorcycles in mind.
We have come from San José, where we stayed yesterday. San José is a small town on the south east coast, with a nice beach to show off. Otherwise it didn’t seem to offer much. Maybe apart from the italian dining place on the road down to the harbour. At least it was a bit strange stitting the with more and more people show up to eat, and the next restaurant (of many) down the road beeing empty.
There is one exception to the thing about building roads with bikes in mind. On our way from Granada to San José, we had descided to take the high road (And this is NOT a figure of speech) across Sierra Nevada. We found that after 23km and in an altitude of 2075m that the road trough the park is closed, and have been so for 7 or 8 years. Besides that it was a great ride though - Is was nice to get cooled down to something below the 30 degrees celtius witch Granada had constantly.
Hans Henrik has been trying to make me get in the water for days now, but I have been a bit reluctlant… But today I went in the mediteranian sea. Wasn’t that bad after all :)
It was time for lunch. So we stopped at a the first the best place saying resturant. It turned out to be an all english joint, run by an english woman, with british guests and all. Nice to be able to order an BLT again (And eating just that afterwards). They also had a couple of local english papers (There mush be quiet af few brits around here), witch informed us that Lord Nelsons… errh.. Larry Ellisons 138 meters yacht “Rising Sun” is laying in the harbour here in town. Apparently he initially had a 120 meters yacht in mind but when he heard that Paul Allen of Microsoft had one just over 120 meters he got it changed to 138 meters. Way to go Larry! :)
We will go take some pictures for the worlds largest yacht later, along with the worlds first submarine, witch they also have down the harbour.

Don’t ever consider to go to Spain. Spain sucks big time..
Ok, ok the headline and intro was mostly for the effect. Even though there is a bit of truth in it. Seen from a traffical point of view Spain is Hell - and it won’t ring its bells before hitting you hard (thanks to ACDC for that abstraction)
Jens Hilligsoe crashed two times allready and now that he must have used up his quota I wonder what is in store for me.
What is wrong with Spain is a total lack of understanding of road safety and comfort. Some considerations:
The map we use have all the roads numbered but those numbers does not reflect the numbers on road signs. Not at all. Planning a route in Spain is impossible without a compass. We brought one and that is why we are now in granada and not f#¤%& Irkutsk in the middle of the Russian Tajka.
Stupid placement of signs. When driving in the mountains the sign for “multiple turns” sometimes shows up, sometimes not. After hours driving in mountains on roads that swings harder than the stupidity of ways EU-subsidaries are spent in southern Spain you’ll find a sign saying that the road probably will turn some within the next 200 meters.
Too many tourist that can rent too many scooters.
Too many people in too many cars going in the wrong directions trying to avoid donkeys, kids, road signs, tourists on scooters, the burning sun and serius road travellers with a compass.

After now 4 days without updating the site, we are now sitting in a nice airconditioned room in Granada, with IP provided by “Wireless” (Thanks to one of the neighbours - We hope that they don’t pay pr MB, since we have used 1.2GB the last two days :)). Anyho..
It was friday we arrived in Moclinejo (A small village 20km from Málaga), where we met up with Mads Genefke, one of my old colleagues from DIR, and his family. Lunch was taken in the local, and newly restored bar Reyes. Afterward we headed to Mads’s place on our bikes. And this was where the problems started. With Mads on the backseat I tried to get up an 20+ degrees hill (The was absolutely no places in the town where there was any plain road) and the engine set out. The result was that we ended up on the ground, as I was not able to use my right foot to set off on the ground - The front brake did not have any use as it was so steep a street, and the weight was mostly on the back wheel.
Besides that we had a great stay at Mads’s. After our dinner we went to Reyes again, where we met Peter, another dane, who was just about done building a house in Moclinejo. We went to see it after consuming our bit of beers and Gin Tonics. Peter has pictures of it on his site (DA).

Saturday we headed off to the town 11km down the mountain to get my right footrest fixed. A you might be able to see on http://gallery.hilli.dk/pics/050701/img_1631.jpg it got a crack in the tilt. We found a MC dealer with the guidance recieved from Mads, but they did not have a new for my model. So we decided the it would probably last allright. It probably would, if not I had to make an emergency break for a car slowing down in front of me. Normaly it would have worked out perfectly, but some car must have spilled oli on the street, because the front wheel sliped and I ended up on the streets again. Luckly we were not driving very fast (I would guess 20km/h), but this time the footrest did not hold. We pulled the bikes back to the shop (downhill :) and borrowed some tools. Hans Henrik got the passengers footrest moved to the front, and we got rolling again. We ended up 8km before reaching Alhama.

After an rather strange experience staying at the hotel (Witch apparently was featuring live band and other arrangements, Linå Kro style) we went to Granada. We have been here for 2 days now, seeing a bit of Alhambra (Hans Henrik a bit more while I slept the day away).

Today we are relly hanging out. We slept till nearly 13:00 and have now nearly spend the afternoon in an internetcafe in the small streets of Cordoba. Maybe we will go sightseeing later.
Tomorrow we leave for Malaga, Hilli has some friends/collegues there and we will spend some days there on their hospitality. Later this week we plan to visit Granada and take the highest road in Europe (about 3.000 m.) near Pico Veleta (Sierra Nevada) 3.375m. back to the shore.
Next week we will drive to Denia (?) and take the ferry to Ibiza. From here there is a boat to Barcelona.
